Acceptable use policy
Last updated 18 October 2026
This policy is part of our Terms of use. It applies to everything you post or send through Guyana Paws: posts, photos, messages, applications, reviews, stories, listings, store products, fundraisers, events and jobs.
Use Guyana Paws to help animals and the people who care for them
Post real animals and real offers, be honest, and treat people with respect. If you’re not sure whether something is allowed, ask us first.
Not allowed
- Selling animals for profit. Adoption posts are for rehoming, with at most a reasonable fee to cover care costs. No breeding-for-sale ads, “puppies for sale” or stud services.
- Wild and protected animals. No buying, selling, trading or giving away wild-caught animals, protected species or their parts (including birds, primates, reptiles and turtles), or anything that breaks Guyana’s wildlife laws or international wildlife trade rules.
- Cruelty. Nothing that promotes, arranges or shows animal fighting, abuse or neglect. Report cruelty to the police or an animal welfare group; don’t post graphic images.
- Scams and fraud. No fake posts, fake rescues, fake fundraisers, advance-fee or “transport fee” scams, or claiming a pet that isn’t yours. Never ask for money to “release” a found pet.
- Harassment and hate. No threats, bullying, stalking, or attacks on people for their race, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, disability or any other part of who they are.
- Other people’s private information. Don’t post anyone’s home address, ID numbers, private photos or contact details without their permission, and don’t accuse named people in public. Use the report link or the authorities instead.
- Illegal or dangerous goods and services. No medicines that need a prescription, controlled drugs, weapons, or services that need a licence you don’t have.
- Misleading listings and reviews. No fake reviews, reviews of your own business, paid-for reviews, or false claims about qualifications, health guarantees or prices.
- Spam and advertising. No repeated posts, chain messages, or ads outside the places meant for them (the directory, the shop, deals and paid placements).
- Pretending to be someone else, including a vet, a rescue, a business or Guyana Paws.
- Sexual or graphic content of any kind.
- Misusing the site. No hacking, probing for weaknesses, overloading the site, scraping it in bulk, collecting people’s contact details, or using bots to post or message.
What happens if rules are broken
We may edit or remove content, hide a listing, remove a badge, limit or close an account, and keep the details we need to protect people. Serious matters, such as threats, fraud, cruelty or crimes against children, may be reported to the police. We decide case by case and don’t always give a warning first.
Reporting
Use the “Report this post” link on a post, or the contact page for anything else. Tell us what is wrong and where. If someone is in danger, call the police on 911 first.
